July 14, 2009
Resurfacing from a 3-month underground hiatus where she had been sheltered from the media storm surrounding her controversial affair with wrestler Peter Panic, Magenta is anxious to be back with BRAWL again…this time, not as a celebrity judge, but as the new team owner!! Using funds that were raised during past events, meant for Family of Woodstock Shelters, she has managed to purchase the BRAWL franchise and would like to assure the public that NO FAN GETS LEFT BEHIND.

BRAWL Photo Event July 17 before Wrestling!!
July 5, 2009
A Brief History of B.R.A.W.L. (Broads Regional Arm Wrestling League)
a two day event showcasing photographs, costumes, memorabilia, and videos from past B.R.A.W.L. tournaments
Roos Arts is thrilled to present A Brief History of B.R.A.W.L. (Broads Regional Arm Wrestling League), a two day event showcasing photographs, costumes, memorabilia, and videos from past B.R.A.W.L. tournaments. This show highlights how bad ass women come together to arm wrestle and raise money for good causes. B.R.A.W.L. is growing in popularity with each event. Why? …because the competition is so fierce. Whether you are a wrestler, a judge, a posse member, a referee, or a spectator, the tournament will draw you in and turn you into an active participant.
Many of the photographs to be displayed at Roos Arts have been collected from spectators of past events and convey how much fun can be had by do-gooders in costume. The theatrical performance – political, thoughtful and grandiose – presents each wrestler as an arm wrestling super hero with names like, “Sweatlana Slapovitch”, “Jackie O’Nasty”, “Iron Maiden”, “Kiki Yor Butt”, “Dee Baser”, “La Nina” or “Bets Von DieStrongArm”.
A Brief History of B.R.A.W.L. will also tell the history of the founders and how the league came to be. Some of the league’s most infamous wrestlers will join us on Friday and Saturday to sign autographs and flex their muscles. We will have Benefit Prints for sale and all proceeds will go to Planned Parenthood of the Mid-Hudson Valley.

Does the occupation slot on your job resume read “Engineer of the Universe?” Do you find yourself on a bi-weekly basis feeling too big for, not only your own britches, but the britches of those around you? ‘Tis the season to be brawlin’!!

B.I.R.T.H.E. program
May 14, 2009
The B.I.R.T.H.E. program was created by The Rose Women’s Care Service of Highland, NY 9 years ago.The program provides pregnant teens, their partners, families and friends with information, worksheets and handouts that focus on Prenatal Care, Baby Care and Labor & Delivery. Unique to the program is a personalized CarePath developed to assist the pregnant teen to identify the things that get in their her way of being well and helps her become skilled at using the resources learned during the program to remove those “barriers to wellness”. It also provides the teen and her support system with information about resources, agencies and people available in the community that can assist them in achieving their own personal goals, individual hopes and dreams, care of the newborn and the opportunity to enhance their new role as parents, grandparents and friends of the new family.

Thank you from Family of Woodstock

Family of Woodstock’s Domestic Violence Programs would like to say a heart felt thanks to the Beautiful Broads of BRAWL. The money raised by your bulging biceps and sweaty brows will help to fund many programs which support women who are surviving or have survived domestic violence. We run a 17-bed shelter for women and children in need of safe emergency housing. We have a court advocate stationed at Ulster County Family Court to help women get orders of protection. We run a multi-faceted children’s program that offers support, counseling, recreation and educational activities. Additionally, there is a free clothing boutique, food pantry and on-going support for women. We run non-residential support counseling and groups for both ex-residents of the shelter and women in the community. The staff of the Domestic Violence programs are available to do community education about the realities of Domestic Violence and how to get help. Thanks again for your contributions to these important and effective programs. We look forward to seeing you on May 1st. Wrestle on ladies!
